New Release: Storm Natural Bowling Ball!

Monday, June 15th, 2009

As technology advances in bowling it seems that bowling balls hook more and more each year. Reactive resin coverstocks have taken the ability to hook the ball to another level. Since we entered the 21st century there has been a large outcry for a bowling ball that is controllable on lighter oil patterns. Even entry level reactives are too strong and unpredictable on dry lanes sometimes. Well Storm Bowling has answered the call with the Storm Natural!

Natural

Storm has taken the technology that was in use before reactive resin, urethane, and updated it in the new U2S Urethane coverstock. Urethane balls are very smooth and predictable and don’t have the hook potential of reactive balls. This is great for drier lanes and when the lanes get squirrely. Storm has combined the U2S with the newer technology of the Turbine core which is used in the Storm Street Rod, Storm Street Rod Pearl, Storm Fast and Storm Furious!

Many people, including myself, have been begging for a urethane ball for years! Well we finally got our wish! The release date for the Storm Natural is June 25th!

Storm has added 2 new colors to their Tropical Storm line! The Storm Tropical Storm Indigo/Ivory and the Storm Tropical Storm Majestic Purple/Ivory!

Tropical Storm Indigo/Ivory

The Tropical Storm is my favorite entry level reactive made today. The Tropical Storm uses the Reactor coverstock that has been used on some of Storm’s best releases from the past few years. You’re getting a ball you know will react well and at a steal of a price! These things look and smell great too! The Storm Tropical Storm Indigo/Ivory smells like blueberry cobbler and the Storm Tropical Storm Majestic Purple/Ivory smells like cheesecake! Sweet!

The New Brunswick Wild Thing Bowling Ball!

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Wild Thing

Brunswick’s newest addition, the Brunswick Wild Thing is sure to make the competition go crazy! I don’t have a lot of information on this ball yet, but I’m sure it will be the perfect compliment to the Brunswick Wild Ride! This ball should hook up a little sooner and give you a stronger but more controlled backend reaction for heavy oil. If your Brunswick Wild Ride would sometimes go a little too long, then you’ll love putting a Brunswick Wild Thing in your hand!

Here’s what Brunswick is telling us about the ball:

Core
The new ultra low RG Paragon core in Brunswick’s new Wild Thing bowling ball was designed with two intentions. First, lower the RG to create a faster revving core that will provide improved mid-lane traction. And second, raise the RG differential to increase the track flare potential which will generate more overall hook with standard layouts and the use of interchangeable thumb sleeves.

Coverstock
The Wild Thing utilizes ConneXion coverstock known for its unbelievable traction response from foul line to head pin. The aggressive connection of the Wild Thing to the lane surface inspires confidence in the ball reaction that allows bowlers to play the lanes the way they want to.

Ball Motion
The Wild Thing and its new ultra low RG core system improves the adhesion of ConneXion coverstock to accelerate the response to friction and turn its attack loose on the pins. This core/coverstock combination allows the Wild Thing to generate a shape never seen before in the Brunswick line.
Brunswick Wild Thing… I Think I Love You!!

New Release: Storm Virtual Energy Bowling Ball!

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Alright ladies and gentlemen, the moment you’ve all been waiting for! The follow up to the most popular and successful ball of the last year – the Storm Virtual Gravity! I now introduce to you the Storm Virtual Energy!

Virtual Energy

If you’ve bowled league in the past year you’ve certainly seen LOTS of Virtual Gravitys! Heck, most likely you’ve got one! The Virtual Gravity has been like nothing else ever produced when it comes to bowling balls. The hook, hit and carry are unmatched…. until now! The Storm Virtual Energy!!

The Virtual Energy will be the perfect compliment to the Virtual Gravity. The only time you would run into trouble with the VG is if the heads dried out and it started to hook up too early. Well Storm has put the R2X Hybrid Coverstock on the Virtual Energy to combat this problem! Storm added part pearl to the R2X Solid Reactive coverstock and shined it up to make the Hybrid! This will get the ball through the heads and with the Shape Lock HD core that was also in the VG will make the same strong move you loved in that ball! The added pearl and shine will make the Storm Virtual Energy more angular on the backend which will help you get in deeper and still carry the corners!

I expect this ball to be just as successful as the Storm Virtual Gravity! Actually, knowing Storm Bowling, it may even be better! We’ll let you know the release date as soon as we do!

As always, Bowl up a Storm!

Sale of the Month: Twisted Fury Pearl and Solid!

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Hey guys,

We’ve got an amazing deal for our deal of the month for May! We are offering the Brunswick Twisted Fury and Brunswick Twisted Fury Solid for $119.99! These ball originally retailed for $199.99!

Twisted Fury

The Twisted Fury Pearl will get down the lane with ease and make a strong but controllable move to the pocket.

The Twisted Fury Solid is the perfect compliment to the Pearl because it can handle more oil and will start up much sooner than the pearl. Both balls use the Torsion Asymmetric Core, which is one of Brunswick’s strongest cores to date!

You can come get one of each, and when the solid starts to hook up a bit too early switch to the pearl! That way you can keep that string of strikes going the rest of the night!

Why won’t my ball HOOK? – Part Two

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Hello again!

In the first part of ‘Why won’t my ball HOOK?’ we talked about the importance of having the correct ball in your hand in order to achieve the hook you’re after. Having the correct ball in your hand is important, but having a ball that FITS your hand is even more important! So the next step is:

Having a ball that fits YOUR hand!

If you ask any good bowler they will tell you that finding the perfect fit is an ongoing process. While it is true that it takes time to fine tune your grip, having a good fit for your first ball is imperative, and will make those adjustments that much easier. If you don’t live near us here at Bellair Lanes Pro Shop you can check out bowlingball.com’s Pro Shop Locator to find a driller near you. I’ll give you some basics that will ensure that your ball fits YOUR hand :)

There are several types of grips, but if you’re wanting to hook the ball the only one you want to go with is a fingertip grip. This is where your middle and ring fingers are inserted up to the crease at the first joint. Hence the term, fingertip. The reason this is the best grip is because by just having the tips of your fingers in the ball, it is easier to create lift, which is the way rotations and hook is created (We’ll talk more about that in Part Three :) ). Most people trying out a fingertip grip for the first time will use finger inserts such as Turbo 2-N-1 Grips Quad Finger Inserts. Inserts are a lot softer than the ball which makes it easier on your fingers. Also, if you use the power lift side of the grips, they can also help you get a little more lift on the ball (which is always great for a new bowler).

The 2nd part of a fingertip grip (and any good fit for that matter) is having your thumb ALL THE WAY IN THE BALL. Let me repeat, ALL THE WAY IN THE BALL! I can’t stress how important this is to having the right fit. Bowling is a sport that is built on consistency. You want a consistent approach, backswing, followthrough and balance – among other things. But the most important is having a consistent release, I mean the only way to knock the pins down is by throwing the ball, right? :) Well having your thumb ALL the way in the ball is the only way to have consistency with your thumb. If you only put part of your thumb in the ball, what’s to say you won’t put it in more or less the next shot? Inserting your thumb more or less from one shot to the next will make you throw the ball differently each time. And inconsistency is a very BAD thing. We need to focus on the inconsistencies of the lane conditions, not our grip!

Let me make a few things clear:

If this is your first bowling ball fit well for YOUR hand, it WILL feel weird at first! If it doesn’t, then it probably doesn’t fit right.

You’re probably used to using a house ball, or your grandpa’s AMFlite and think that’s how a ball is supposed to feel. But if you think about it, your grandpa is 7 inches taller and 117 pounds heavier than you. How could you both have the same exact hand? You don’t.

Your buddy Cletus’ Hammer Black Widow does NOT fit your hand, bro (Or sis, we are very equal opportunity here at Bellair Lanes Pro Shop :) ).

This is always the hardest part of having a ball fit for your hand for a new bowler. The thumb most likely will feel tight. You’ll ask to have it opened up about 740 times. But if your pro shop guy is good, he will work with you on how to release the ball right so you won’t have to make the thumbhole so big your grandpa could use it. And in the long run you’ll be glad you didn’t. When you’re averaging 227 in a few years you’ll have that first good fit to thank :)

So if you haven’t yet, come see me and we’ll get you throwing a HOOK in no time!

Stay tuned for Part Three!!
